Rhein Creative Arts Center

C.Kirk Rhein Center for the Living Arts

 rheincenter.jpg

The Rhein Center is the place for fine arts, crafts, friendship, learning, teaching and sharing. Our schedule includes great classes from chair caning to paper making, kite flying, swing dancing, rock painting, black and white photography, stained glass and lamp working.

Plans are being made for the 2008 Season.  Artist/teachers are being recruited and classes are being designed. Keep watching below for exciting, new details about our Tenth Season at the Rhein Center for the Living Arts !

Located in the historic Epworth Lodge at Sixth and Walnut Avenue, the Rhein Center is a bustling, full-of-activity place.  Classes are offered 4 times a day- in two hour sessions.  Some of the courses are 5 days long, others are only one session- so you can make a commitment to come and learn for the whole week (or whole summer) or just stop by for a two-hour class.  You can learn something new, meet other Lakesiders, and enjoy making some art.  We are glad to have students come and use the facilities- talk to the staff if you are interested in doing special projects or open studio hours.

HOW TO REGISTER FOR CLASSES
During the Season an Open House is held every Sunday afternoon, 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., and gives students a chance to visit, meet the artists, check out the projects for the week, and sign up for classes.

Often more people sign up for classes than we are able to accomodate. After all perspective students are entered into our computer system, Our computer lottery system  randomly chooses students and creates class lists for each art class.
You may also register for classes during the week if space remains in a class. however your best opportunity is to register on Sunday.  We have an online listing of courses for the summer which is included below on this page.  The classes change from time to time.  Check back often for updates..

ABOUT THE RHEIN CENTER BEGINNINGS:

The C.Kirk Rhein Center for the Living Arts was born ten years ago, when Lakesiders Clyde and Sittie Rhein donated funds for a program in the name of their son, Kirk, who was lost in the TWA 800 disaster in 1998.  Clyde and Sittie envisioned a place where Lakesiders could share with one another, celebrating life through the arts.  They continue to lovingly support the Rhein Center, visiting, bringing lunches for the artists, purchasing new equipment to help us along as the program grows.

And their dream became a wonderful little art center- where we have fun, make great things, play with new mediums, explore our creativity…  The Rhein Center is no longer a “little art center” … as last summer we served over 3800 students, with more than 100 volunteer instructors, so many class offerings, and new programs every week.  The Rhein Center is quite unique...a very special gift to Lakeside from two wonderful Lakesiders and their many friends.

TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES:

The Rhein Center is looking for talented folks who are willing to volunteer their time teaching.  Being at the Rhein Center is an enjoyable experience, as the atmosphere is laid back, relaxed, and our students attend class because they want to learn and enjoy their time in Lakeside.  We provide instructors with gate passes and some teachers receive housing.  Please e-mail the Rhein Center Director, Juliann Breting Rohn, at juliann32@comcast.net if you are interested in learning more about teaching at the Rhein Center for the 2008 season.

VOLUNTEER:

Want to help out at the Rhein?  We are always in need of volunteers.  Stop by and chat with us about opportunities.  Every week we need Sunday Ope
