The Lakeside Candlelight Symphony Showcase
Monday, August 11, Lakeside will mark the 20th anniversary of the Candlelight Symphony Showcase, an annual fundraiser for the Lakeside Symphony Show Orchestra. This unique event invites patrons into featured homes, lit by a path of luminaries, to hear performances of small ensembles comprised of symphony musicians.
The Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, established in 1963 is one of Lakeside's most cherished organizations and the eight performances it produces each summer have become a tradition for guests, visitors and residents alike. In order to sustain this tradition, the Lakeside Association invests over $100,000 annually to hire and house musicians and their families during the Chautauqua program season.
Tickets will be available in Hoover Box Office at the end of July and cost $35 each. In addition to ticket sales, the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation invites businesses and organizations to support the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra. We would like to thank our following business sponsors for their contribution to this important event:
Raymond Schaefer, Inc.
Coffee & Cream
Bassett's Market

Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation Announces the 135th Anniversary Challenge Gift
Through a private gift, Lakeside announces the second challenge gift during the 135th Anniversary of the Chautauqua season. The anonymous Lakeside family is encouraging new families and friends to join either the Lakesider Club, Directors Club or move to a higher Directors Club giving level. $135 will be added to your gift to celebrate Lakeside’s 135th Anniversary and your new leadership gift. This challenge gift will help Lakeside achieve the annual fund goal of $400,000 for 2008.
The 135th Anniversary Challenge Gift is given by an anonymous donation and the family feels that the Lakeside Annual Fund plays an important part in keeping Lakeside alive and vibrant. The annual fund helps provide staff to carry on summer and expanded year-round programming and investing in maintenance and improvement of physical facilities. “The Lakeside Annual Fund literally fills the gap from what Lakeside draws from gate fees and assessments and what it takes to operate Lakeside and provide our signature programs,” explains Dale Knobel, Chair of the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation.
Last year, Jim and Vanita Oelschlager challenged Lakeside with the first matching gift program. The Lakeside community saw tremendous results including over 55 new Directors Club members. This 135th Anniversary Gift plays an integral part to help Lakeside achieve its 2008 annual fund goal and develop new philanthropic leaders. We hope this year the 135th Anniversary Gift will encourage Lakesiders to become leadership donors.
The Challenge works like this: A Lakeside property owner, guest, friend or employee becoming a first time Directors Club or Lakesider Club participant in 2008, or any Directors Club member moving to a higher giving level would have a $135 Anniversary Gift added to their gift by the anonymous Lakeside family. For example, a new family who gives a first time unrestricted $500 gift would have $135 added to their gift. The $500 gift would turn into a $635 dollar gift. Lets get together and use up this entire 135thAnniversary Gift.
The Directors Club and Lakesider Club: These two groups of Lakesiders intend to annually contribute a leadership-level unrestricted gift to the annual fund. The Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation developed four Directors Club circles: Gold Circle ($2500),Silver Circle ($1750), Bronze Circle ($1,250), Standard ($1,000). The Lakesider Club is an unrestricted leadership-level $500 gift. Last year, members of the Directors Club and Lakesider Club generated over $270,000 toward the Lakeside Annual Fund. If you have questions about the 135th Anniversary Challenge Gift, contact the advancement office at 419.798.5396 and ask for Gretchen Colon or Lesley Roush.

Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation and Lakeside Association announce the Lakeside Leadership Academy Community Celebration
The LLA interns recently met at the Patio for an informal meeting to discuss and plan their upcoming group presentation, the culminating experience of their summer tenure at Lakeside.
To coincide with the LLA goals, The 2008 LLA Community Celebration will include interns highlighting their contributions and interactions with the Chautauqua community. In addition, each intern will prepare a visual display for attendants to view before and after the presentation, which will showcase their position and responsibilities; interdepartmental relations with other interns and supervisors; mentor networking; pictures of family and friends; and educational background.
“I believe our presentation will provide the community with a greater understanding of the program, objectives and the overall final imprint of our positions on Lakeside. In the end, we hope the initial success of our academy class will garner more support for the program after the audience views the positive effect of the LLA on our lives and Lakeside,” said Carrie Nurnberger, Lakesider editor.
The interns of the LLA would like to take this opportunity to invite the Lakeside community to hear our Lakeside story and how the program has benefited our lives and the anticipated advantages it will add towards our continued education and future careers. The 2008 LLA Community Celebration is scheduled for Monday, July 28 at 6 p.m. in the Lakeside Hotel Dining Room. Please RSVP for the event by Monday, July 14 by contacting Megan Staton, Group Sales and Events Coordinator Intern, at 419-798-4461, ext. 349 or by emailing mstaton@lakesideohio.com.
