Lakeside Rules & Regulations

Welcome to Lakeside

Listed on this page are some guidelines to follow during your visit to Lakeside. These guidelines apply to all Property Owners, Renters and Guests of the Lakeside Chautauqua. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the Association office toll free at (866) 952-5374 or locally at (419) 798-4461. Please press zero and the Association front desk staff will be happy to help you. You may also contact the staff by email at guestinfo@lakesideohio.com. We hope your stay is a pleasant and memorable trip for you, your family and friends.

Gate Admission

Admission to the Lakeside grounds during the Summer Chautauqua Season is by gate pass. You will need to show your pass to the gate attendant upon entrance and exit of the grounds. A gate pass must be shown at Hoover Auditorium to allow you entrance to the evening concert series. Hoover entrance requires one of the following types of passes, daily gate, extended gate, season pass or coupon from a Lakeside coupon book or Entertainment Pass Booklet. All guests on the grounds are required to have a pass, if any guest is found in non-compliance with the rules and regulations; The Lakeside Association reserves the right to cancel the privilege of the grounds to the guest. Please keep your gate pass with you at all times.

Parking and Shuttle Service

The Welcome Center will be open to assist with information and gate pass purchases. You will also be able to purchase passes at the Gate House located behind the welcome center. This gate will operate as does the Fifth and East Second Street Gates.

Guests are asked to park in the South Parking lot and catch the shuttle service to the downtown area. A shuttle bus with handicap accessibility is available. This vehicle will be doing a continuous loop from the South Gate to the hotels and Hoover Auditorium. There will be no need to call for shuttle, simply go to the stop and catch the bus as it makes its rounds.

Service will still be provided for those who need assistance getting downtown from their home or cottage. The Mack Mobile will be available by phone. Drivers will carry a cell phone in order for those needing a ride to contact the driver direct. Look for the phone number to be published on the website, The Lakesider and other printed materials in facilities on the grounds.

Shuttle service will be running for Memorial Day weekend beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 26, through Monday, May 29, at 5 p.m. Shuttle will begin for the Annual Conferences and the Chautauqua Season on Friday, June 9, at 5 p.m. through 5 p.m. on Labor Day.

3-hour parking is available at no charge outside the Fifth Street gate. There is no charge for this lot which is a temporary parking area.

Limited Free Parking is also available at Danbury Local School. Pick up a window sticker from the Admission staff. The lot behind the school near the playground facility is available for use. Transportation to and from the Danbury lot is the responsibility of the guest.

Quiet Hours

Quiet hours are from 11 p.m. (11:30 p.m. on Saturday) until 8 a.m. daily (noon on Sunday). No noise or conduct of any kind that would disturb slumber is permitted during this time.

Pets

Lakeside has a “Leash Law” requiring all dogs be under leash or confined to their owner’s premises at all times. This is in effect to protect guests and other household pets from physical harm and to prevent damage to private property. When walking your pet, take care to clean up after it. Please use the Mutt Mitt Dispensers located at 5 convenient locations: Kenton Row and Lakefront; the Beebe Memorial; Second and Central Park Entrance; Perry Park and the vicinity of 7th and Maple. Only service dogs are permitted at our hotels and must rental units do not allow pets. Please contact your rental agent for information specific to the rental unit you are using.

Boats and Trailers

All boats and trailers are prohibited on the Lakeside grounds. Space is not available for boat and trailer storage. However, gate attendants have information regarding the nearest storage facility in Marblehead which does offer a daily, weekly or monthly rate for Lakeside guests. Lakeside-Marblehead Storage is located on St. Rte. 163 and can be contacted at 419-798-2444.

Motorized Bikes and Scooters

Motorized Bikes and scooters are prohibited on the grounds of Lakeside. Special dispensation may be made for motorized vehicles if they are required due to a physical handicap or limitation. Please contact the Lakeside Security Department if you require the vehicle for transportation. Dispensation can be made through their office.

Traffic Control

Street and road signs are posted for your protection. They are considered the same as in your city. Danbury Police and the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department enforce the driving laws and street regulations. The speed limit for all of Lakeside is not to exceed 15 mph. Please do not park across driveways or on the double yellow line.

Be aware the direction of Walnut and Central has changed due to the new South Gate Entrance. Central is now one-way North and Walnut is one-way going South.

Bicycles

Remember that cyclists are subject to the same traffic rules as motor vehicles in the State of Ohio and on the streets of Lakeside. This means bikes are to obey the one-way streets and traffic signs as well. Pedestrians always have the right-of-way. Bicycle helmets are strongly encouraged.

Swimming

Swimming is confined to and permitted in designated areas around the Lakeside Dock only, when the lifeguards are on duty. Flotation devices are permitted in restricted areas.

Business District

Skateboarding, roller blades and other similar items are prohibited in the Business District. This area is bounded by 4th Street on the South and Central Avenue on the East, Maple Avenue on the West and the Lakefront on the North. This also includes the Lakefront Path. These items are also prohibited on all sidewalks, the Hoover Auditorium ramps and steps, and in all parks which include the shuffleboard courts, tennis courts, dock and Walking Trail.

Substance Abuse

Substance abuse is not tolerated on the grounds of Lakeside. Alcohol and/or narcotics are not permitted on any Lakeside Association property. Anyone found under the influence or in the possession is subject to complete prosecution.

Campfires

Campfires or fires of any kind are prohibited on the grounds of Lakeside.

Golf Carts

Only golf carts that meet Lakeside Association Golf Cart Standards shall operate on the streets of Lakeside. All golf carts are required to have a Lakeside Association golf cart registration sticker. In order to obtain a sticker, the cart must meet all the standards listed and be inspected by security before the pass is issued. Golf Cart Standards are: horn, headlights, turn signals, brake lights, tail lights, safety glass, brakes, and seat belts. Inspection forms are available in the Association Office. Once the cart has passed inspection, a golf cart pass must be purchased.

Medical Assistance

Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton is the nearest emergency facility. Lakeside no longer has a Nurse On Call on staff. However, the Margruder Hospital  staff is accustomed to serving the needs of summer visitors to Ottawa County. The hospital is located at 615 Fulton Street, Port Clinton, Ohio. Follow St. Rte. 163 West to Port Clinton and turn left onto Fulton Street.

Refuse Collection

Refuse collection is contracted through a service. Containers must be placed at the roadside or curb by 7:30 a.m. All containers must have lids. Memorial Day through October 1st, collection is twice a week on Mondays and Fridays. From October 1 until Memorial Day, collection is once a week on Mondays.

Refuse receptacles and recycling bins are available at the South Maple Street Refuse site. Recycling materials accepted include: steel, bi-metal, and aluminum cans; #1 and #2 plastic bottles; clear, green and brown glass containers; and newspaper. Go past the new Welcome Center to enter the site.

This service is available for renters and property owners.
