Lakeside Chautauqua is expanding its annual Community Christmas Dinner into an all-day event filled with children’s activities, family-friendly entertainment and much more on Saturday, Dec. 9. Holiday movies will also be featured on Friday and Saturday. Festivities will be held in conjunction with the Marblehead Merchants’ “Village Lights,” an event that highlights local shops and restaurants on the peninsula. Admission and parking for both events are free.

Pajama Party & Christmas Movie: “The Polar Express” (G)
7:30 p.m., Orchestra Hall
(Free-will offering/donation for admission)

Come in your pajamas and take a magical adventure to the North Pole. “The Polar Express” is a musical fantasy film based on the 1985 children’s book of the same name by Chris Van Allsburg. Throughout his journey, a young boy learns about friendship, bravery and the spirit of Christmas. After the pajama party, receive a hot chocolate packet and candy cane to take home. (100 mins)

Saturday, Dec. 9

Marblehead Merchants’ “Village Lights”

North Pole Workshop & Children’s Christmas Movies
From 1-2 p.m. in the Fountain Inn Aigler Room, crafts for all ages will be offered for $3/child, including ornament-making and coloring. Hot chocolate, pretzels and water will be served.

At 2 p.m., older children may choose to walk, with volunteer supervision, to Orchestra Hall for a screening of “Elf” (PG, 97 mins). This popular holiday comedy stars Will Ferrell, Ed Asner and James Caan. As Santa Claus makes his rounds on Christmas, a human orphan crawls into his sack and accidently hitches a ride to the North Pole. Raised by an elf and never truly fitting into the elf world, Buddy decides to go to New York City to seek out his birth father. A free-will offering/donation is suggested for admission.

Also at 2 p.m., there will be a Christmas-themed story time in Chautauqua Hall for younger children, followed by a series of animated holiday movies from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

Parents must accompany children age 5 & under. Children age 6 & older may participate in the activities after a parent fills out a permission slip. Children will be supervised by Lakeside staff and volunteers. At the end of the activities, all children should be picked up by 4 p.m. in Fountain Inn Aigler Room or Chautauqua Hall. Children will not be supervised for the Chip Richter concert.

Concert with Chip Richter
