The Drowsy Lads

Date

May 26, 2017
08:15pm – 10:30pm

Location
Hoover Auditorium (map)

The first Hoover performance of the summer will feature The Drowsy Lads, an Irish band founded in 2003 by brothers Daniel and John McKewen and friend Bryan Brookes.

Soon after forming The Drowsy Lads and breaking into the Irish music scene, they added Josh Franck, a friend from church, and his father, Phil.

A musical favorite at local festivals in their hometown of Columbus, Ohio, The Drowsy Lads are always eager to share their infectious chemistry and love for music with audiences.

The group has played at a variety of Irish festivals in Milwaukee, Dayton, Cincinnati, Louisville and the Dublin Irish Festival in Dublin, Ohio. Other performances include three previous concerts at Lakeside, shows with the Otterbein University Orchestra and packing Murphy Theatre in Wilmington, Ohio.

The Drowsy Lads have shared live sets with the likes of Slide, John Whelan, Full Set, Socks in the Frying Pan and lead dancer of Riverdance Joe Moriarty.

Each lad is a multi-instrumentalist, and the combined lineup includes fiddle, button accordion, tenor banjo, flute, whistle, guitar, bouzouki, Uilleann pipes, 5-string banjo, concertina and bodhran.

The Drowsy Lads create their own spirited arrangements and original compositions with a mix of bluegrass or classical, but, this never gets in the way of their obsession with the pure musicality of traditional Irish tunes.
