Lakeside Symphony Orchestra Concert "Classics of the American Songbook" with Michael Shirtz Quartet

Date

Aug 11, 2017
08:15pm – 10:30pm

Location
Hoover Auditorium

For the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO)’s fifth concert of the summer, they will play “Classics of the American Songbook” with the Michael Shirtz Quartet.

From the music of early Broadway and the sounds of the silver screen, to the world of jazz and the birth of rock & roll and more, join Michael Shirtz as he shares his passion for the Great American music story.

Affectionately called “MSQ,” the group features Reggie Jackson (drums), Dwight Bailey (bass), Doug Neel (guitar) and Shirtz (vocals and piano).

Since returning to the commercial music scene in 2015, Shirtz and his quartet have focused their performances on celebrating jazz and its influence on American music.

Known for their energetic programs, audience engagement, multimedia elements and natural artistry of contemporary music, MSQ promises to be an exciting addition to Robert Cronquist and the LSO.

The first half of the show will include “The Beautiful Galatea Overture,” “French Military March,” “It’s Alright with Me,” “Our Love is Here to Stay,” “If I Only Had a Brain” and more, paying tribute to early films and the Fred Astaire era.

The second half the show will journey through early R&B and rock & roll with a Motown tribute of Jackson Five songs, “Proud Mary,” “Fire and Rain” and more.
