Family Program in the Park: Back to the Wild

Jul 30, 2017
03:00pm – 05:00pm

Hotel Lakeside Lawn Tent

A special Family Program in the Park will feature the rescued animals of Back to the Wild at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 30 under a tent on the Hotel Lakeside lawn. See bald eagles, owls, hawks and other animals while learning about the work of this wildlife rehabilitation and nature education center, located in Castalia.

Founded by Mona Rutger in 1990, Back to the Wild's primary mission is to rehabilitate and ultimately release into their natural habitat, injured, orphaned and displaced wildlife. Through this work, Back to the Wild educates all ages and fosters awareness, appreciation and respect of our natural world.

Much of the program’s focus over in recent years has shifted to education since 90 percent of the animals rescued come in due to human-related concerns. The center rescues more than 2,500 animals a year and more than 60 percent of those are released back into their natural habitats. Through education, we hope to help teach people how to better care for our natural world. However, we still rescue an average of 2,500 animals every year and see around 60% of them return to the wild.

Children especially are encouraged to become responsible caretakers of our Earth by becoming involved in conservation activities to preserve and protect wildlife areas and to understand our own interconnection with all living things.
