The Society of Old Salts (S.O.S.)
S.O.S. was founded in 1991 by 26 family members. Today we have approximately 100 family members. Our mission is to provide the resources for a safe, enjoyable and comfortable Sailing Club with a commitment toward continuous improvement. We simply contribute the finances and countless volunteer hours to fulfill this mission. One of the membership benefits is the free use of the sunfish and lasers in the S.O.S. fleet.

Wooden Boat Society
2005 marked the launching of the Lakeside Wooden Boat Society. Inspired by the beauty of wood and passion of Lakeside wooden boat owners, the LWBS is dedicated to having fun and getting people interested in wooden boats. By passing on the skills of wooden boat construction, restoration, and the history of wooden boats, especially on Lake Erie, the Lakeside Wooden Boat Society hopes to spread its celebration of the wooden boat to others.
The LWBS established its summer headquarters – or the “LWBS Boat Works” – at 537 Vine Street, just around the corner of the Lakeside Gardening and Maintenance Building. So are you interested in a hands-on experience in restoring or participating in building a wooden kit boat? Are you interested in the correct approach to painting and varnishing an unfinished boat? Or, are you interested in just looking at the beauty of a finished boat? If you wish to engage in any of these adventures, the LWBS Boat Works is the place for you!
Restoration classes will be offered every Monday-Thursday morning. Kit boat building classes will be held every Monday-Thursday afternoon. Besides the daily classes look for seminars and other special events and classes to be added to the list of scheduled events.
