For more than half a century, Lakeside has hosted an annual art show in Hoover Auditorium Lobby. This year’s Katharine C. Crampton Memorial Art Show will kick off with an Opening Night Reception from 7-7:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13 in Hoover Auditorium. The show will continue until Saturday, July 31, with opportunities to view the artwork from 3-5 p.m. every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday. Hoover Auditorium Lobby will also be open a half-hour prior to each 8:15 p.m. performance.
The show is comprised of artwork in a variety of media, submitted by artists from Lakeside, the surrounding area and cities across the region. Last year’s show featured 175 pieces submitted by 95 different artists of all ages from as far away as Texas. The submissions will be judged by artist Dino Massaroni from Tallmadge, Ohio, for the following awards: First, Second and Third place in both adult and youth divisions, and Awards of Merit in each medium.
Visitors to the show will be able to vote on the Popular Choice Award, which will be announced during the final week of the show. Lakeside staff will select the recipient of the Laura J. Werden Lakeside Award, which will be given to the artist that best represents a Lakeside image or scene. Werden directed and organized the annual Lakeside Art Exhibit from 1956-1999.
The Katharine C. Crampton Memorial Art Show was managed from 1999-2008 by Crampton’s daughters, Ann Wagnitz and Carol Laesecke, and their volunteer team. Wagnitz and Laesecke took over the sponsorship and endowed the art show in 1999 as a tribute to their mother’s memory and her love of Lakeside. During their tenure the art show grew in numbers of entries and quality of art work.
