Help Plan for Lakeside’s Future

This summer, guests are invited to have Dessert with Lakeside Chautauqua President/CEO Kevin Sibbring on Mondays at 3:30 p.m. from June 22-August 3 in the Hotel Lakeside Fern Room. Please RSVP to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) with your name and email address.

The Dessert reception is an opportunity for you to provide valuable input about Lakeside’s future. Lakeside has been blessed with a clear vision and strong leadership over the last 142 years. Established in 1873, Lakeside immediately drew thousands of people to the shores of Lake Erie each summer who were seeking spiritual and cultural rejuvenation.

The first seats and stands in Central Park emerged, the first permanent home was erected, and the first 300 feet of dock was built to welcome those who, for years, would arrive by steamers.

Tent sites were established as additional plans for growth emerged. Soon, Lakeside’s first church and the first wing of the historic Hotel Lakeside was growing and the grounds were taking shape.

For nearly a century and a half, Lakeside has remained true to its mission: To enrich the quality of life for all people, to foster traditional Christian values, and relationships through opportunities for renewal and growth spiritual, intellectual, cultural, and physical while preserving Lakeside’s heritage.

Our founders planned for the future of Lakeside more than 142 years ago. Today, we enjoy the fruits of their vision and labor. Now, it is our time to do the same for future generations.

Master Planning

In anticipation of Lakeside’s 150th anniversary, the community will commence a long-range master planning process this summer. As part of this process, Lakeside Chautauqua will adhere to five overarching strategic goals set forth by the Lakeside Chautauqua Board of Directors.

Lakeside Chautauqua’s Strategic Goals:

  1. Preserve Lakeside’s heritage, traditions and culture as expressed in the mission and vision statement
  2. Become known as a center of Chautauqua programming excellence
  3. Assure Lakeside is a safe, healthy and aesthetically pleasing community
  4. Address 21st century guest expectations
  5. Develop the financial resources needed for long-term sustainability and advancement Master planning at Lakeside will be a collaborative, multiyear process.

Guided by our mission, strong leadership and an emerging vision for the future of the institution, the community will be engaged in a comprehensive master planning process to ensure Lakeside Chautauqua has physical spaces that support future Chautauqua programming and a vibrant living and learning community across its campus.

Through this process, Lakeside Chautauqua will be engaging its broadest community to plan for future programming spaces, recreational facilities, green spaces, accommodations and retail, transportation and parking solutions, and the best use of our existing buildings.

New ideas will emerge and concepts will be refined. Lakeside Chautauqua will rely on a systematic approach that requires continual testing with community stakeholders throughout the planning process.

Every Voice Matters

We value your Lakeside story and how these sacred grounds have enriched your life, whether you are here for the first-time or have been coming your entire life.

Throughout the next 24 months, Lakeside Chautauqua will be asking for your opinion and valuable insight. You will be able to participate in a number of ways including interviews, focus groups, community forums, guest surveys/e-survey and comments on our blog, The Front Porch.

As individuals participate in the master planning process, Lakeside will be able to identify emerging trends and needs so we can ensure that Lakeside continues to fulfill its mission for many generations to come.

As part of this process, Lakeside will also be engaging professional services to assist the institution and community in the development of an achievable Master Plan.

Participation of the entire Lakeside Chautauqua community is essential to developing a Master Plan that will ensure Lakeside remains relevant in the 21st century and in the lives of those it serves.

“Reminiscing of what Lakeside Chautauqua means in our lives and dreaming of what it can become is great, but we need to plan if we want it to become a reality,” said Bill Drackett, Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation Board Chair. “A treasure like Lakeside needs to be nurtured and cared for. Strategic long-range master planning is part of that dreaming that every generation has done. It is our turn to plan for the future of Lakeside.”

We encourage your active participation and want to hear from you. To learn more about how you can participate, visit www.lakesideohio.com/ news/2023. We value your feedback; every voice matters.
