After much anticipation and extensive renovation, the Lakeside Association is pleased to announce the reopening of the Lakeside Laundromat. The new proprietors of the business are Lakesiders Tom and Marcy Winkel of Lewis Center, Ohio.
The Winkels have placed much thought into the reopening of the Laundromat, which opened on June 4. The building has received exterior and interior renovations including an upgraded façade, windows, outdoor seating and a new restroom. New equipment has been installed, including washers, dryers, counter space and seating.
The Laundromat will be open year-round. During the summer season (Memorial Day-Labor Day), business hours are 8 a.m.-7 p.m. daily. In the off-season, business hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
The Laundromat offers self-service, wash, dry and fold service and commercial laundry service. The Laundromat houses 10 22-pound washers, two 30-pound washers, three 60-pound washers, 10 30-pound dryers, four 45-pound dryers and one 75-pound dryer. The prices vary from $3-7 for use of the washers and 25 cents-$2.50 per six minutes of dryer usage. The wash, dry and fold service is available Monday-Friday for $1.10 per pound, with a minimum of 10 pounds. Twin/double comforters are $15 each and queen/king comforters are $18 each for the wash, dry and fold service.
Laundromat customers are welcome to use free Wi-Fi, various game machines, Coca-Cola vending machine or browse through a selection of magazines. For customer convenience, there is a drop-off parking zone located in the front of the building, as well as five spaces in the rear for Laundromat customers only. An attendant will be on hand throughout the day for assistance with the machines. Also, for Marblehead and the surrounding area, a two-hour laundry pass is available during the season. The pass must be stamped by the Laundromat attendant in order to exit Lakeside.
Lakeside Association President/CEO Kevin Sibbring said the Association is pleased with the opening of the new Laundromat. “Tom and Marcy Winkel are great additions to the Lakeside business district and we are thankful for their commitment and dedication. This new service is a true partnership and we hope it clearly demonstrates our ability to respond to the community we serve. We are committed to their success.”
Tom became familiar with the Lake Erie region from visits with his parents to Gem Beach. Years later, the couple discovered Lakeside on a whim. Marcy describes the experience as “love at first sight.” Not long after their first encounter with the Chautauqua community the family purchased a cottage in 2001 with plans to retire.
However, last year, the Lakeside Laundromat opportunity became available. With Tom’s experience in operating the family bowling business for 25 years and owning a commercial cleaning business for 15 years, he decided to revive the Lakeside Laundromat. The couple now resides in Lakeside and has three grown children: Dan, 41, Sonya, 37 and Grant, 23.
The Winkels are seeking individuals willing to work every evening during the season, especially weekends, starting at 7 p.m. If interested, contact Tom at (614) 374-2110.
Lakeside is grateful to the Winkels for upgrading this service to Lakeside residents and guests.
