Ten Lakeside Trade Association merchants met on Aug. 21 to review this year’s success in the Lakeside Business District. The Lakeside Association was represented by Vice President of Operations Wendy Eller, Enterprise Committee Chair Dave Moss and Tom Hilty.
At the meeting, merchants shared their satisfaction with the updated appearance of the Business District, especially the new banners, awnings, trash receptacles, benches and overall cleanliness. These appealing changes represent another response to last year’s retail survey.
Merchants also said that 2010 business thus far was either “up from last year,” “good” or “met expectations,” and felt they had been rewarded for changes in inventory choices, food selections and hours of operation. They agreed that the Lakeside website (http://www.lakesideohio.com/shopping) was an excellent way to promote the Business District.
New businesses, such as the Lakeside Laundromat, Hotel Lakeside Dining Room and expanded Artists-N-Cahoots store, also helped to contribute to increased traffic and favorable guest expectations. Merchants have heard guests comment positively about their Lakeside experiences. Several of the business owners reported seeing traditional one- or two-week vacations among guests turn into frequent four-day vacations, usually Friday-Monday.
Dave Moss said, “As we approach the close of the 2010 Chautauqua season, the Enterprise Committee looks forward to continuing its work with the Lakeside Trade Association members and the Lakeside Association staff to meet the needs of residents and guests in the future.”
