Lakeside announces Shirley and Richard Witteborg to serve as Co-Directors of the C. Kirk Rhein, Jr. Center for the Living Arts. Shirley and Richard joined the Lakeside team in January.
As Co-Directors of the Rhein Center, the Witteborgs are responsible for recruiting more than 120 volunteer teachers who serve approximately 6,000 students. On Sunday afternoons, the couple will organize a volunteer crew and register more than 400-500 students for the upcoming week. Throughout the summer, the Witteborgs will create an environment where families can step out of the fast lane to experience the arts, foster relationships and have rest and renewal while at Lakeside.
Richard and Shirley bring a combined 60 years of education experience to the Rhein Center. Richard has served as chairman of the art department and Shirley was a high school English teacher. Both served in the Defiance City Schools.
“We are excited to have the Witteborgs join the Lakeside staff. Their experience in arts and education will provide strong leadership for the Rhein Center, and build on the success of previous directors,” explains Shirley Stary, vice president of Programming.
According to Richard, “Being Co-Directors of the Rhein Center affords the opportunity to be around other artists, work with creative people and watch students of all ages enjoy the arts.”
His wife further explained, “You know – once a teacher, always a teacher.” Richard and Shirley would like to further the strong tradition of the arts at Lakeside, encourage new artists to teach at the Rhein Center and continue adding to the success of Juliann Breting Rohn’s leadership.
C. Kirk Rhein Center for the Living Arts continues to grow as we look forward to the 2011 Chautauqua season. The Rhein Center is planning for a great season and will be enriching students with exciting classes this year. Visit www.lakesideohio.com to learn more about upcoming classes.
