The Lakeside Leadership Academy (LLA) interns and supporters gathered on June 26 to celebrate the third season of the internship program. Family members were invited to spend the day in Lakeside to learn more about the community.
For many families, this marked their first visit to Lakeside. Marketing/Public Relations Intern Delaine Farr invited her parents and two older brothers. Together they spent the day "swimming and fishing off the dock, picnicking in the park and seeing an amazing show at Hoover." Farr's family enjoyed the day, and is looking forward to returning to Lakeside later this summer.
At the evening gathering the interns and their families met with the LLA supervisors and mentors, as well as members of the Lakeside community at the Train Station for a dessert reception. Two alumni of the LLA program, Amanda Liske, former Educational Programming Intern, and Rachel Fulks, former Cultural Arts Programming Intern, were also in attendance. This provided a unique experience for the past and current interns to share stories and advice.
Lakeside Association President/CEO Kevin Sibbring spoke to the group, stressing the importance of the internship program in Lakeside and the ties the interns form with the community. Rhein Center Arts/Music Education Intern Merritt Ramicone, who attended the dessert reception with her mother and father, commented, "The reception was lovely. The ceremony was quaint and elegant. The pie and ice cream cooled off the warm summer day."
After the reception, the group attended the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats show at Hoover Auditorium, where they stood to be recognized before the program.
The LLA Closing Ceremony will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 5 in Wesley Lodge. The interns will give presentations about their summer experiences. This event is free and open to the public. Look for more details in the coming weeks.
