LWC Announces Tour of Homes Chair

The Lakeside Women’s Club (LWC) has announced Wendy (Weagraff) Stuhldreher as the Tour of Homes Chair.

She has already started planning the 60th Annual Tour of Homes, which will take place on Thursday, July 23, 2015.

Wendy grew up in Bedford, Ohio and now resides in Upper St. Clair, Penn.

She and her husband, Tom, own a cottage on the northeast corner of Fifth Street and Maple Avenue. It is the cottage with the eye-catching red, white and blue light display.

Wendy is a fourth-generation Lakesider. Her maternal grandmother’s family started the Lakeside tradition.

Her mother, Carol, and Carol’s two sisters all worked at the Hotel Lakeside.

Wendy has fond memories of “cousin time” during annual Lakeside visits as a child.

When the Stuhldrehers’ three boys, Tom, Tim and Peter, were young, Wendy and her husband were temporarily “homeless” during a move. They needed a place to stay for a few weeks until their new home in Pennsylvania was vacant.

Her parents suggested to stay at Lakeside. That was the family’s first extended experience, and they loved it. It was the perfect atmosphere for the boys.

After that, they continued to vacation in Lakeside every year.

Their sons are now grown and married, and the Stuhldrehers have two 4-year-old grandchildren who love Lakeside.

Wendy’s parents, Carol and Claude Weagraff, purchased the cottage at 462 Maple Ave. in 1986 and restored it to its former Victorian charm.

The Weagraffs were active in the Friends of the Hotel Lakeside.

In keeping with the love of restoration, Wendy and Tom helped to restore the interior of the cottage after Carol was diagnosed with cancer.

Wendy assumed ownership of the family cottage in 2001.

It was her mother’s desire to have the home on the LWC Tour of Homes, and it was in 2010.

The Stuhldrehers have continued to make improvements to the cottage while trying to keep the historic Lakeside charm.

The timing is right for Wendy to assume her new position. She recently retired from Slippery Rock University where she was a professor teaching nutrition and epidemiology, and served as Assistant Dean.

In fact, Wendy will give a lecture during the Week 10 Chautauqua Lecture Series on her area of expertise, nutrition.

Her organizational and people skills honed in academia will be useful in her new volunteer job heading up the LWC Tour of Homes.
