Lakeside Wooden Boat Society (LWBS)

The year 2005 marked the launching of the Lakeside Wooden Boat Society (LWBS). The mission of LWBS was inspired by the role of wooden boats in Lakeside's history, the art and beauty of wooden boat construction, and the passion of Lakeside wooden boat owners. LWBS is dedicated to preserving this heritage through programs that involve both children and adults.  Check out www.lakesidewoodenboatsociety.com for boats for sale, memorable t-shirts, hats and other LWBS activities.

Lakeside Wooden Boat Show

The annual Lakeside Wooden Boat Show in July partners with the Ohio Plein Air Society (OPAS) to attract not only Lakesiders, but also day visitors who come to enjoy a rare collection of artwork.  Classic wooden boats, owned by area residents are exhibited at the dock and on the Hotel Lakeside lawn.  Also on the grounds are paintings of Lakeside scenes rendered by OPAS artists.  The day includes food, fun, art and entertainment.  For further information about registering your wooden boat, contact Mame Drackett at mame@drackett.cc or 419.798.2050.

LWBS Youth Boat Building Classes

PondBoat Building for Kids is held two days per week (ages 5-8 or 9-11).  Younger students build a Balloon Powered JetBoat.  Older children build a SuperSail Boat.  A coordinator and adult volunteers assist the students with hands-on construction, utilizing simple workshop tools, then test the watercrafts in the lake.  Check the weekly Lakesider newspaper for a current schedule, or visit the LWBS website at www.lakesidewoodenboatsociety.com.

Sunday Evening Cruises

Sunday Evening cruises on the classic 1937 Richardson boat, "Amazing Grace," or on a classic Lyman boat begin at 5:30 pm each Sunday during the Chautauqua summer season from the L Dock.  The boat rides make an incredible evening for viewing the lake and Lakeside while seated in a vessel steeped in history and beauty.  Check the weekly Lakesider newspaper during the season for details.
