2012 Chaplain of the Week

At the heart of the Lakeside experience is the religious Chautauqua pillar, fostering faith development in the Christian tradition. As part of the Chaplain of the Week program, Lakeside brings a different and outstanding preacher to live in residence in the community every week. The Chaplain of the Week brings inspiration and spiritual enrichment throughout the Chautauqua season.

The Chaplain of the Week begins the message for the community at the 10:30 am Sunday morning Hoover Worship Service. At Chaplain’s Hour at 9:15 am Monday-Friday, the chaplain will preach in Orchestra Hall weaving the themed inspirational message throughout the week. Closing the week on Friday, the Chaplain of the Week will dialogue with the community on the scriptural theme.

A Look to the Chaplains for the 2012 Chautauqua Season

Lakeside is part of the Chautauqua Movement, which flourished during the 19th and 20th centuries. It is considered to be one of the greatest revival movements in American history, dedicated to Christian values and cultural excellence, and nurturing mind, body and spirit. Lakeside’s programming is built upon the four pillars of Chautauqua: religion, education, cultural arts and recreation.

The religion pillar is administered in Lakeside’s Religious Life Department, which oversees a number of programs and activities. These include Sunday Worship Services, Chaplain’s Hour, Evening Praise, Children’s Ministries, including Sunday Children’s Worship Celebration, God Squad, Middle Grade Ministries, Teen Ministries, Interfaith Week, Peace Week and the Wednesday Evening Family Picnic.

The Lakeside Religion Advisory Team supports the Program Committee of the Lakeside Board of Trustees. This group of laity and clergy advise the Lakeside Association staff regarding the programs in the religion pillar, including future Chaplains of the Week.
