Family Night in the Park: Upriver Music

 Sunday, June 17, 2018
6:00pm-7:00pm
Steele Memorial Bandstand/Gazebo

Upriver Music plays a mixture of traditional and original folk music in the Celtic and Appalachian traditions. Musicians Dan Moorefield and Teresa Morrison blend their vibrant sound with stories and legends to deepen the audience’s understanding of these rich musical heritages.

An evening with Upriver will take you on a journey that brings American history into focus through an alternate lens, opening your eyes to the hope and the hardship that brought a quarter of a million Scots-Irish out of British slavery in their homeland to freedom in the New World.

Upriver is proud to present the music of these immigrants and their descendants, songs of joy, struggle and hard work that have been passed along in the old oral tradition of true folk music. These are honest songs, written by the people who lived them.

Moorefield (guitar, piano, fiddle and vocals) has musical roots that go back to the County Waterford in Ireland. He mixes his research of Irish history, the people and their music with his life experiences as a farmer, school teacher, father and businessman to bring both musical diversity and education to Upriver’s shows.

Morrison (Irish whistle, alto recorder, banjo, mandolin, guitar and vocals) infuses her multi-instrumental talents with her Scottish and Irish heritage. Through her travels, she feels a soulful connection with the music that spans continents, mountain ranges and generations. In addition to performing, Morrison also teaches music at the Wayne Center for the Arts in Wooster.
