Genoa American Legion Band

3:00pm-4:30pm
Steele Memorial Bandstand/Gazebo

To commemorate Military Appreciation Day, the Genoa American Legion Band will perform patriotic tunes, marches and show tunes from 3-4:30 p.m. Sunday, June 24 at the Steele Memorial Bandstand/Gazebo.

The Genoa American Legion Band began as a community band in the mid-1860s and has been sponsored by the Genoa American Legion Post 324 since 1932. The band has performed continuously, with the exception of a few years during World War II. Most members are veterans, or have ancestors who served in the military.

The band exclusively played marches when it first began as an all-male organization. The style and repertoire has changed over the years, but patriotic music still plays a large role in their performances.

Additionally, many women are now members of the Genoa American Legion Band, which is is the oldest American Legion Band in the state and made up of 35 volunteers.
