The Rev. Dr. Deanna Ferree Womack

The Rev. Dr. Deanna Ferree Womack will serve as Lakeside’s Preacher of the Week from August 5-9. She will preach at the Hoover Community Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 5 in Hoover Auditorium.

The Rev. Dr. Ferree Womack was ordained in the Presbyterian Church and spent two years in Lebanon working as a Christian educator and an associate minister.

She now serves as Assistant Professor of History of Religions & Multi-Faith Relations at Emory University’s Candler School of Theology in Atlanta and is the first individual to hold this job at the school.

In her research, the Rev. Dr. Ferree Womack focuses on interreligious understanding, Christian-Muslim dialogue and American-Arab relations.

Currently, she’s working on a book exploring the encounters between American missionaries and Arab residents of Ottoman Syria during the pre-World War I period. In particular, she’s focusing on Syrian women writers and preachers who navigated cultural and religious boundaries in their experiences with missionaries

The Rev. Dr. Ferree Womack is a member of the American Society of Church History, the Middle East Studies Association, the International Association for Mission Studies and the American Academy of Religion. She has received numerous awards for her scholarship, including honors from the American Academy of Religion and the Fund for Theological Education.

During her week at Lakeside, the Rev. Dr. Ferree Womack will preach at 10 a.m. Monday-Thursday in a combined Faith for Living Hour and Chautauqua Lecture Series presentation. Please note the special time.

At 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, she will lead Vespers by the Lake, held on the Pavilion East Deck.

For those who wish to attend worship, a complimentary Church Pass may be obtained between 7:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday; valid until 3 p.m. A complimentary Faith for Living Hour Pass is available between 8:30-9:15 a.m. Monday-Thursday; valid until 1:30 p.m. Both passes include admission to Lakeside for guests and auto, but not access to the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus.
