Winning Gardens across Lakeside Grounds

The 'Lakeside in Bloom' Beautification Awards Program honors those who have worked to promote the overall aesthetic appearance of the Lakeside grounds. Guests and residents are invited to experience the award-winning landscapes of this program on a self-guided Garden Tour.

The 14th Annual Garden Tour will take place from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 at the various winning gardens across the Lakeside grounds.

A Garden Tour Pass to enter the grounds is available for $10, which includes an Auto Pass, but does not include admission to the Hoover Auditorium performance that evening or the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus. For those with a Season Chautauqua Pass or Daily Chautauqua Pass, there is no additional charge.

Tour attendees may pick up a map of the winning gardens to explore on their own. Maps will be available at the gate entrances, Fountain Inn and Hotel Lakeside front desks, and the Lakeside Chautauqua Administration Office on the day of the event.

‘Lakeside in Bloom’ Beautification Awards Program

This year, the awards program will recognize two award classes: Public Gardens (maintained by a group of volunteers for public appreciation) and Residential Gardens (any home, camper, rental property or cottage within the Lakeside Chautauqua gates or Island View subdivision).

Categories to choose from include: Yards (with an emphasis on design, planted material, care and overall appearance) and Feature Gardens (such as fairy gardens, vegetable plots, a grouping of potted plants or a well-planted front porch).

Those entering either category may want to consider some of the following ideas to catch the judges’ attention:

  • Creative use of space
  • Fabulous entryway
  • Healthy eating
  • Sustainability
  • Backyard oasis
  • Ingenuity in action (upcycling & repurposing)
  • Eye-catching container garden (pots or hanging baskets)
  • Wildlife attracting habitat
  • Unusual specimen plant
  • Whimsy & enchanting gardens
  • Water gardens
  • Silk flower enhancers
  • Rock gardens
  • Garden art

All nominated gardens are judged by gardening specialists who will visit each nominated site unannounced the two weeks prior to the awards night on Wednesday, July 11.

Winners and participants will receive awards and recognition at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 11 in Hoover Auditorium before the evening performance. The Judges’ Choice Winner will also be announced that evening.

All Lakeside Chautauqua properties will be considered for this honor. Please share your beautiful garden or nominate a deserving neighbor.
