The 2018 Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) summer concert series will come to a close with a program featuring guest conductor Michael Chertock and pianist Dror Biran.

The concert will include "Festive Overture, Op. 96" by Dmitri Shostakovich and "Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat Minor, Op. 23" by Peter Ilich Tchaikovsky.

Established in 1963, the LSO is one of Lakeside’s most cherished traditions. Bringing classical music to the Chautauqua community, the orchestra performs seven concerts during its month-long residency.

The LSO is made up of more than 90 musicians from across the country that have devoted many years of service to Lakeside.

Chertock is the Music Director of the Blue Ash/Montgomery Symphony and is Chair of the Piano Department at the College-Conservatory of Music. He also serves as the organist at the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Montgomery, Ohio.

He has guest conducted the Columbus Symphony, Cincinnati Symphony and Pops, State Symphony Orchestra of Moscow and the Moscow Conservatory Orchestra.

For this performance, the LSO will also feature pianist Dror Biran. Born in Israel, Biran is a top prize winner of several national and international piano competitions. He is a graduate of the Givataim Conservatory and The Rubin Academy of Music at Tel-Aviv University.

He received his doctoral degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and has performed as a soloist with the Lithuanian Philharmonic Orchestra, RTVE Symphony Orchestra of Spain, Johannesburg Philharmonic Orchestra, Louisville Orchestra and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.

Biran has taught at Youngstown State University, Case Western Reserve University and the University of Louisville in Kentucky. Currently he serves as an Associate Professor of Piano at the College-Conservatory of Music University of Cincinnati.

Following the concert, there will be a reception in the Hoover Auditorium lobby for guests to meet Chertock and Biran.

The community has the chance to learn more about Chertock at the 'Meet the Conductor' Forum at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 12 in Chautauqua Hall. Please note special time.

Chertock will also lead the last Symphony Pre-Concert Talk of the summer at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 in Hoover Auditorium. Each talk gives the audience an opportunity to hear about the evening’s concert music, composers and guest conductor.
