Clarendon United Methodist Church Youth Choir

 Monday, June 25, 2018
7:30pm-8:00pm
Hoover Auditorium Porch

The Clarendon United Methodist Church (UMC) Youth Choir will perform a special concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 25 on the Hoover Auditorium porch.

The choir was founded in Arlington, Va. in 1999 when Director of Worship Arts Lisa Gibbs-Smith was hired to start a music program for teens.

Four faithful high school students comprised the first ensemble, which met weekly to learn the foundations of Christian faith through the study and practice of sacred music. The program steadily grew, and over time, there began to be an interest in starting a hand bell choir for the students.

Today, there are 33 students participating in the youth choir and 20 students in two different bell choirs. There's still a strong emphasis on Christian discipleship, spiritual growth, the study of scripture through sacred music text, and mutual fellowship and encouragement.

The youth music ensembles contribute regularly to both the contemporary and traditional worship services at Clarendon UMC, while also sharing their gifts beyond the walls of the church by attending festivals and using music as an avenue for their mission.
