World Affairs Dialogue

 Friday, July 6, 2018
3:00pm-4:00pm

Each Friday afternoon, the Lakeside Chautauqua World Affairs Dialogue presents an opportunity for thoughtful discussion on a current issue affecting the US and other nations. Attendees are encouraged to study the topic in advance and come prepared with ideas, suggestions, questions and facts. The session is not a political forum and while opinions are welcome, we encourage participants to present factual statements in support of their opinions. Above all, respect to all participants is expected.

This Friday, July 6, we will discuss the many kinds of trafficking: drug, weapons, money laundering, and worst of all, trafficking in persons (TIP). Human trafficking can take many forms including sexual exploitation and prostitution of women and children, forced labor and debt bondage and involuntary servitude.

Suggested reading and to study the topic in advance of the discussion:

Last week, the State Department delivered it’s annual Trafficking in Persons report: https://www.state.gov/documents/organization/282798.pdf

Also please visit the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) website to view the Global Report on Trafficking In Persons: http://www.unodc.org/documents/Global_Report_on_TIP.pdf
