Lakeside welcomes Doreen St. John as this year's judge. Since the early 1980s, St. John has exhibited her work in juried outdoor shows, conducted workshops and won several awards, including Best in Show for her watercolor and mixed-media paintings.

Over the past three years, she has achieved signature status with the Oil Painters of America, the American Impressionist Society and the Pastel Society of America. She's also a board member of the American Impressionist Society and the Ohio Plein Air Society, where she serves as secretary.

St. John will award First ($400), Second ($300) and Third Place ($200), as well as Honorable Mention (up to 8, $50 each) in the adult division, and First ($50), Second ($35) and Third Place ($25), as well as Honorable Mention (up to 2, $10 each) in the youth division.

Guests to the Art Show can vote for the People’s Choice Award, the winner of which will be announced during the final week of the show.

Lakeside staff members will select the recipient of the Laura J. Werden Lakeside Award, which will be given to the piece that best depicts a Lakeside image or scene. Werden, the namesake of this award, directed and organized the annual Lakeside Art Exhibit from 1956-1999.

  • All artwork must be wired properly and securely to be accepted in the show
  • Pop-out cardboard hanging hoops and saw tooth hangers are not acceptable
  • Lakeside Chautauqua reserves the right to reject any artwork that is not properly prepared for hanging
  • How to hang artwork:
    • Use only D-ring or eyehooks; place them as shown on the red horizontal lines
    • Use braided picture hanging wire that is heavy enough to support the artwork. Hardware can be obtained at craft stores, hardware stores, etc.
    • Loop the hanging wire through each hook twice, leaving a 2-3” tail. Wrap the tail around the long end of the wire like a braid. Use electrical tape to cover the wire ends so that the installers do not prick themselves on the sharp ends
    • The hanging wire should be long enough so that its peak will be 1-2” from the top center of the frame
