The Rev. Sharon K. Core

Over Memorial Day weekend, Lakeside welcomes the Rev. Sharon K. Core as guest preacher at the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, May 26. Her sermon, titled "Roll Call," is based on Isaiah 1:1, 10-20 and Hebrews 11:1-3,8-16.

The names of those buried in the Memorial Garden at Chautauqua Park, and Lakesiders who we lost during the 2018-2019 year will be read aloud during the service.

Following the opening prayer, children (ages 5-11) will proceed to Bradley Temple for children’s church with Chip Richter. There will be a message by Richter, songs, crafts, lemonade and cookies. Preschoolers are welcome if accompanied by an adult.

In addition to the Hoover Community Worship Service, the Pavilion East Deck will hold an 8:30 a.m. Dockside Worship Service with Eucharist, led by the Rev. Dr. Scott Wilson. The Lakeside United Methodist Church will also hold a service, led by the Rev. Karen B. Graham, at 9 a.m.

For those who wish to attend any worship service, a complimentary Church Pass may be obtained between 7:30-10:30 a.m. Sunday; valid until 3 p.m. The pass includes admission to Lakeside for guests and auto, but not access to the Grindley Aquatic & Wellness Campus or the show in Hoover Auditorium that evening.

The Rev. Core currently serves as General Presbyter for the Presbytery of the Western Reserve (PWR) in Cleveland, Ohio. PWR is a regional governing body of the Presbyterian Church (USA), serving northeast Ohio and equipping congregations to be Christ in and for the world.

“I love this work,” she says. “I continue to take delight in learning about the many ways God is active in the lives of those in this Presbytery. I come to this work with a commitment to and love for parish ministry. I have learned much from the congregations I have been privileged to serve and the ways they have incarnated the love of Christ influences my own sense of ministry.”

Her responsibilities include providing inspirational leadership that enhances the Presbytery’s strategy for mission and ministry, encouraging conversation and communication among the Presbytery, nurturing relationships with congregations and clergy, providing pastoral care to clergy in times of need, and maintaining relationships with Synod, General Assembly, ecumenical, interfaith and secular contexts.

The Rev. Core is a graduate of Agness Scott College and Columbia Theological Seminary, both in Decatur, Ga.

For 18 years, she served as Pastor at Arlington Presbyterian Church. She was also served as Associate Pastor at Bervard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church in Brevard, N.C. Prior to her ministry, she served as an admissions counselor at her alma mater.
