LSO Subscription Package Daily Chautauqua Pass & Parking

Established in 1963, the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO) is one of Lakeside’s most cherished traditions. Bringing classical music to the Chautauqua community, the orchestra will perform six evening concerts and two youth matinees during the 2019 season.

The LSO is comprised of more than 80 musicians from across the country, many of whom have devoted several years of service to Lakeside.

Lakeside Chautauqua and the LSO are excited to welcome Daniel Meyer as the new Music Director & Conductor of the LSO. A native of Cleveland and current resident of Pittsburgh, Meyer studied conducting at the Hochschule für Musik in Vienna as a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar.

He’s a graduate of Denison University and the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. As Music Director of the Erie Philharmonic, Artistic Director of the Westmoreland Symphony, and Director of Orchestral Activities at Duquesne University, Meyer has reinvigorated orchestras with his engaging presence and keen musical intellect.

The concert opens with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s famous “Symphony No. 25 in G minor.” The work, most associated today with numerous commercials and from the movie “Amadeus,” is composed with such an intensity and energy, making it one of Mozart’s most recognized and beloved symphonic melodies.

The concert continues with Joaquin Rodrigo’s “Concierto de Aranjuez” featuring guitarist Colin Davin. The work was influenced by the beautiful gardens of the Palacio Real de Aranjuez in Spain, where Rodrigo transports listeners by evoking the sounds of nature through a dialogue between guitar and orchestra.

The LSO concludes the concert with the “Suite from Der Rosenkavalier” by Richard Strauss. The suite highlights the gorgeous waltzes and versatile melodies from Strauss’ comic opera Der Rosenkavalier.

Featured soloist Davin has emerged as one of today’s most dynamic young artists. He’s been hailed as “the real thing, a player with a virtuoso’s technique, a deeply expressive musicianship, and a probing imagination” by American Record Guide, and was lauded for his “precision, musical intelligence and passion” by Cleveland Classical.

An active player in the American contemporary music scene, he’s performed with Talea Ensemble, Contemporaneous, Present Music and New Juilliard Ensemble, among others.

Davin has premiered dozens of new works and currently runs the Century Guitar Project, a new initiative that seeks to commission 100 new works for guitar.

He holds a Master of Music from The Juilliard School, a Bachelor of Music from the University of Southern California and underwent preparatory studies at the Cleveland Institute of Music.

In addition to the evening concert, join Christina Fuhrmann of the Conservatory of Music of Baldwin Wallace University, for a Symphony Pre-Concert Talk at 7 p.m. in Chautauqua Hall.
