Hoover Auditorium

Lakeside welcomes Dr. Michael Roizen, Cleveland Clinic's Chief Wellness Officer and New York Times bestselling author, for a special evening lecture in Hoover Auditorium.

Dr. Roizen is a graduate of Williams College and the University of California, San Francisco, School of Medicine who is passionate about wellness and helping people choose to live younger and healthier.

He performed his residency in internal medicine at Harvard’s Beth Israel Hospital and completed Public Health Service at the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Roizen is certified by both the American Boards of Internal Medicine and of Anesthesiology.

He’s the Cofounder of RealAge, Inc., a consumer-health media company that developed the first scientific, patented measurement of the age of your body. Although the company sold in 2006, he still Chairs its Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Roizen is 72 years of age, but his RealAge is 53.8.

In 2007, he was named Chief Wellness Officer at the Cleveland Clinic, the first such position at a major U.S. healthcare institution. He also served as founding Chair of the Wellness Institute at the clinic from 2007-2017.

Dr. Roizen has published more than 185 peer-reviewed scientific pages, 100 textbook chapters, 30 editorials and four medical books (one a medical bestseller) and received 13 U.S. and many foreign patents.

His first general-audience book, RealAge: Are You as Young as You Can Be?, became a No. 1 New York Times bestseller and was awarded Best Wellness Book of 1999 by the Books for a Better Life Awards. RealAge has been translated into more than 20 languages and was No. 1 in four other countries, displacing Harry Potter for seven days as No. 1 on Amazon.

Dr. Roizen still practices internal medicine today, using the RealAge metric to motivate his patients. He routinely takes patients who are in the midst of struggling with tobacco, heart, diabetic and arthritic problems and coaches them with simple (but persistent) lifestyle changes to be able to live, feel and look years younger.
