The Special Consensus is a four-person acoustic bluegrass band formed in 1975. They will perform traditional bluegrass standards, original songs written by band members and professional songwriters, and songs from other genres performed with a bluegrass twist.

The Special Consensus has toured internationally and nationwide, appeared in concert with symphony orchestras and have brought informative presentations to schools around the world. They have also appeared on National Public Radio, the Nashville Network, and the Grand Ole Opry.

In 2012, the band released Scratch Gravel Road and received a Grammy nomination for Best Bluegrass Album. Their 2014 performance of “Country Boy: A Bluegrass Tribute to John Denver” earned them an Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year and Recorded Event of the Year from the International Bluegrass Music Association.
