Cheetah Conservation with Suzi Rapp

 Wednesday, July 17, 2019
3:00pm-4:00pm
Hoover Auditorium

Prior to Suzi Rapp's evening family show in Hoover Auditorium with the Columbus Zoo animals, join her for an educational seminar. Please note: this afternoon program is an educational seminar and not an entertainment program for children; that program is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

With more than 35 years of zoological experience, Rapp has become an expert in the field of cheetah conservation. Currently at the Columbus Zoo & Aquarium, she oversees the care of 20 cheetahs ranging in age from a few months to 10 years old. All of these cats act as ambassadors for their wild cousins in Africa by traveling with Rapp and her team to events across the U.S.

Rapp has spent countless hours speaking to the public, generating awareness and fundraising to preserve a future for cheetahs. Through partnerships with organizations like the Cheetah Conservation Fund and Ohio State University (OSU), Rapp and her team are able to directly aide wild cheetahs in Africa.

All cheetahs at the Columbus Zoo are trained to voluntarily participate in blood draws, hair shaves and various other procedures to contribute to veterinary studies conducted by the zoo’s staff veterinarians and at OSU.

Rapp also works closely with the Association of Zoos & Aquariums Cheetah Species Survival Plan on cheetah reproduction. These studies help to further understand cheetah health and welfare, as well as make advances in conservation medicine.

At this special educational seminar, listen to Rapp share her work as an advocate for the species and learn why she works passionately to spark a connection between humans and these unique animals.
