1:30pm-3:00pm
Orchestra Hall

Julie K. Rubini will discuss her journey as a writer and the founding of Claire’s Day, as well as answer questions from the audience. Her books will be available for purchase at the event.

Julie has published three books as part of the Biographies for Young Readers Series through Ohio University Press. These books are intended for middle-grade readers ages eight and up.

Her first book, Missing Millie Benson: The Secret Case of the Nancy Drew Ghostwriter and Journalist, tells the story of Mildred “Millie” Benson, who wrote for the Stratemeyer Syndicate, which published the phenomenally popular Hardy Boys series, among many others.

Virginia Hamilton: America’s Storyteller, recognizes the life of one of America’s most distinguished authors of 20th Century youth literature. In her lifetime, she published 41 books and received nearly every award in youth literature during her 35 year career.

Julie’s most recent book, Eye to Eye: Sports Journalist Christine Brennan, features the story of Christine Brennan, who has covered every Olympics since 1984 and has knocked down barriers as a female sports journalist.

Julie and her husband Brad established Claire’s Day, a children’s book festival in honor of their daughter. A highlight of the festival is the C.A.R.E. Awards, given to children selected as the most improved readers in their schools.

Julie is the recipient of the Toledo Area Jefferson Award (2015), the YWCA Milestones Award (2016) and the University of Toledo Outstanding Alumna Award (2015).
