Join us in Lakeside from May 29-31 for an exciting weekend of mystery and adventure! Fun for the whole family, events include a weekend-long Murder Mystery at the Historic Hotel Lakeside, recreational adventures to explore, interactive scavenger hunts for all ages, a mystery writer panel discussion, concert with Mercury with a tribute to Queen and much more.

The gates of Lakeside will not be in operation this weekend. Various event fees may apply.


Weekend-Long Events

Consider yourself warned – everything is not as it seems at historic Hotel Lakeside! Join us along the shores of Lake Erie for an interactive murder mystery provided by Keith & Margo’s Murder Mystery.

The chilling experience, perfect for people with a passion for cold blooded murder, slippery red herrings, diabolical clues and ingenious detective work, immerses hotel guests into an unusual, exhilarating and spine-tingling adventure. The intrigue begins Friday evening upon check-in, with the case cracked by Sunday’s brunch.

Recreation Passport/Wristband

$10/adult (age 13+); $5/child (age 12 & under); free for Season Chautauqua Passholders and ‘Murder Mystery at the Historic Hotel Lakeside’ and’ Family Adventure Weekend’ hotel packages (up to 4 guests). Purchase a Recreation Passport/Wristband at the pool, Miniature Golf hut, Wellness Center, Administration Office and Hoover Auditorium ticket window. Season Chautauqua Passholders must present their season pass at each location for admission.

Enjoy the many recreational venues and activities throughout Lakeside for a discounted price during this special weekend. Activities included with the Recreation Passport/Wristband include the following (except waterfront rentals): swimming, miniature golf, pickleball, tennis, shuffleboard, basketball, sand volleyball, gaga ball and fitness room.

Stroll the grounds of Lakeside solving mysterious clues and hunting Lakeside history. Whether working solo or as a team, start your hunt by picking up a free list of clues at Heritage Hall Museum between 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Friday-Sunday. Turn in your completed list by 4 p.m. Sunday to be entered into a drawing for a special prize.

Kids’ Treasure Hunt & Heritage Hall Museum

10 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Heritage Hall Museum (238 Maple Ave.)
Free for all ages

The unique history of Lakeside and Marblehead is preserved and exhibited in Heritage Hall Museum. Displays include regional photographs, memorabilia and artifacts. Pick up a History Mystery Scavenger Hunt clue sheet and tour the Lakeside grounds, or take part in a variety of indoor Heritage Hall Museum treasure hunts for all ages.

3-7 p.m. (one-hour timeslots), Fountain Inn Front Desk (225 Maple Ave.)

Register for The Great Canine Follicle Debacle

Play the role of canine contestants in a Bestbred Dog Show, and find out which dog wins Best in Mischief in this family-friendly mystery. Petunia the Poodle is met with a horribly embarrassing fate – emerging from her bath completely bald! It looks like someone substituted a bottle of hair removal lotion for her shampoo, and now she’s bald. It’s up to the guests to figure out who is responsible.

“Murderous Intentions” Mystery Writer Panel Discussion & Book Signing

Join award-winning mystery writers, Toni L.P. Kelner (aka Leigh Perry) and Andrew Welsh-Huggins, in a discussion on the art of the mystery in Orchestra Hall. A book-signing immediately follows.

Toni L.P. Kelner
Toni L.P. Kelner is the author of 11 novels: eight Laura Fleming mysteries and three Where Are They Now? mysteries. Kelner is also the author of numerous short stories and co-edits bestselling urban fantasy anthologies with New York Times best-seller Charlaine Harris. Their most recent are Games Creatures Play and Dead But Not Forgotten.

Kelner won the Agatha Award and a RT BookClub Lifetime Achievement Award and has been nominated multiple times for the Anthony, the Macavity and the Derringer. As Leigh Perry, she writes the Family Skeleton series for Berkley Prime Crime.

Andrew Welsh-Huggins
Andrew Welsh-Huggins is an editor and writer for the Associated Press in Columbus and the author of the Andy Hayes mystery series, featuring a former Ohio State and Cleveland Browns quarterback turned investigator.

In addition, he is the editor of the Columbus Noir anthology coming in March 2020, a collection of 14 mystery stories each set in a different Columbus neighborhood. His story, The Murderous Type, won the 2017 Al Blanchard Prize for best New England short crime fiction, and Long Drive Home was included in the Other Distinguished Mystery Stories category in The Best American Mystery Stories 2019.

Mercury Concert

8:15 p.m., Hoover Auditorium (115 W. Third St.)
Purchase passes in advance online or at the Administration Office or Hoover Ticket Window by 5 p.m. Friday, May 29: $10/adult (age 13+), $7/child (age 12 & under). Passes will be mailed if purchased by May 15 or will be available for pickup at the Hoover Auditorium ticket window on the day of the show. Passes purchased at the door on the day of the show are $15/adult (age 13+) and $12/child (age 12 & under).

The tribute band Mercury brings the timeless music of Freddie Mercury and Queen to the stage of Hoover Auditorium to celebrate Lakeside’s new Mystery & Adventure weekend.

As a musical innovator and lover of classical music, Freddie Mercury famously combined classical and rock music in a unique way. For one night only, relive the songs that made Queen’s front man an icon and learn details about his life. The set list includes rock anthems “We Will Rock You,” We Are The Champions,” “The Show Must Go On,” “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” “Fat Bottomed Girls,” “Bohemian Rhapsody” and much more.

The band Mercury stars Terry Barber, an internationally acclaimed, rare countertenor known for his extraordinary range, both vocally and stylistically as lead singer. The group also features Don Carr (The Oakridge Boys) on electric guitar, Grace Field as vocalist and pianist, Jonathan Cummings as vocalist, drummer and guitarist and "Bones" Moltedo on bass guitar.

Worship Services

Lakeside offers a variety of worship celebrations every Sunday during the summer. Some are more casual than others, but all offer a wonderful spiritual experience to all who participate.

Dockside Worship Service with Sacrament of Holy Communion starts at 8:30 a.m. on the Pavilion – East Deck. The 9 a.m. Lakeside United Methodist Church Service is led by the Rev. Karen B. Graham. The 10:30 a.m. Community Worship Service, led by the Rev. Stephen Engram, is held in Hoover Auditorium. All are welcome to attend.
