Mouse Island Sailing Race

*Due to winds, the Mouse Island Sailing Race will be rescheduled for tomorrow, Sunday, July 26. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Race begins at 9 a.m.

The 27th Annual Mouse Island Sailing Race will take place at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 26, weather permitting.

There will be three classes offered, including Single-Handed Sunfish, Double-Handed Sunfish and Single-Handed Laser. All age groups will sail together.

The course will start at the Lakeside Sailing Center (LSC), sail around Mouse Island and back to Lakeside. The race is approximately two-three hours. Novice sailors should partner with experienced sailors.

Registration is free and will begin at 8 a.m. at the LSC. This race is organized by the LSC and the Society of Old Salts (S.O.S.).


2020 Mouse Island Sailing Race Results

The 27th Annual Mouse Island Sailing Race was held July 26 under clear skies and ideal wind conditions. Twenty-four boats with 36 sailors participated in this three-class race. The winners of each class were:

Laser Single-Handed

  • 1st: John Dudrow
  • 2nd: Jack Prior
  • 3rd: Guillaume Carrol

Sunfish Single-Handed

  • 1st: Ryan Johnson
  • 2nd: Tom Prior
  • 3rd: Tom Hilt

Sunfish Double-Handed

  • 1st: Weston & Bob Sudomir
  • 2nd: Jack & Brian Brucken
  • 3rd: Ryan & Greg Holzaepfel

The safety power boat was provided by the Lakeside Wooden Boat Society with Captain Phil Savage and Crew Kent Studebaker. We could not run this race without their assistance.

A special thanks to all the sailors that make this race what it is. This race is organized and run by the Society of Old Salts (S.O.S.).

Mouse Island Sunfish Challenge

The Society of Old Salts (SOS) is organizing the 5th Annual Mouse Island Sunfish Challenge. This is a summer-long opportunity to race from the Lakeside Sailing Center (LSC) around Mouse Island and back to the LSC. It’s a Sunfish only race with single and double-handed racing as one. Once completed, your overall time is recorded using the honor system in the LSC. Racers may sail any time up to Sunday, Aug. 2. Detailed procedures and information are posted at the LSC. Mouse Island Sunfish Challenge Results

The 5th Annual Mouse Island Sunfish Challenge concluded on August 2.

This summer-long challenge to sail a Sunfish from the Lakeside waterfront, around Mouse Island and back was won for the third year in a row by Bob Sudomir and his crew Weston and Evelyn Sudomir. Their total time was 1 hour and 37 minutes. They were only seven minutes short of the record time set by Ed Caner of 1 hour and 30 minutes. Thanks to all who participated.
