Watermelon-Decorating Contest

Lakeside Wooden Boat Society Tent in Bettinger Park

Drop off an already carved, painted or decorated watermelon at the large white tent in Bettinger Park (also known as the Wooden Boat Society tent) from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, July 4.

All entries will receive a free game of miniature golf. Prizes will be awarded for Best Child Entry (age 12 & under), Best Teen Entry (ages 13-17), Best Painted Design, Best Carved Design, Best Use of Props, Best Lakeside-Inspired Design and Best Patriotic Design.

The Most Creative Design Overall will be chosen from the above categories and win 2 Daily Chautauqua Passes for the 2020 season. Awards will be presented at 3:30 p.m. the same day at the Steele Memorial Bandstand.


Winners

  • Best Child Entry: Jake Roser, his patriotic watermelon, was dripping in wet paint and adorned with balloons and pipe cleaners
  • Best Teen Entry: Bella Gilleth, carved a watermelon-rind turtle
  • Best Patriotic Entry: Amelia Wheeler & Kate Barnette, had a flag carving
  • Best Carved Entry: Becky Rexroad, created a detailed golf cart
  • Best Lakeside-Inspired Entry: Ryan Holzaepfel, a Lakeside Shuffleboard Court
