Evening Music: Michael Shirtz

 Friday, September 4, 2020
7:00pm-8:15pm
Steele Memorial Bandstand

A performer, producer, composer and conductor, Michael Shirtz is known for his versatility with jazz, contemporary and classical music.

His interest for traditional music is clearly evident in his work as a conductor and educator, while his passion in contemporary music is his noted forte.

Shirtz's vocal style captures the warmth and lyricism of a Mel Tormé on smooth ballads, and up tunes are distinct with energy, drive and a hint of gospel and blues.

Originally from Marquette, Mich., Shirtz began his musical career while in high school leading everything from small house bands for dinner clubs to variations of big bands and jazz combos.

The trio for tonight's concert features Shirtz (piano/vocals), Dwight Bailey (bass, vocals), Reggie Jackson (drums, percussion).

Masks required. Please practice safe social distancing. While some seating is provided in Bettinger Park, guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. In the case of inclement weather, this event will be cancelled.
