Evening Music: Helen Welch – Carpenters Reimagined

 Saturday, June 19, 2021
7:30pm-8:30pm
Steele Memorial Bandstand

A favorite of Lakesiders, singer Helen Welch returns for an encore performance this summer with her original, fresh perspective of songs and stories that captures the true quality and essence of the Carpenters. Helen celebrates the songs of the brother sister duo including rare and fascinating backstage stories about one of the biggest selling groups of the 1970’s. Songs include: Close To You, We’ve Only Just Begun, Goodbye to Love, Mr Postman, Superstar, Yesterday Once More, I Won’t Last a Day Without You and more!

A native of England, Welch relocated to the U.S. to guest star in the Broadway musical Smokey Joe's Cafe. Her immediate success landed her as a fronting vocalist for the Cleveland Orchestra, Grant Park Symphony Orchestra (Chicago), Florida Symphony and the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.

Since then, Welch has been producing her own shows for Cleveland's Playhouse Square and The Akron Civic Theatre. She is also president of Big Wow Productions and has developed shows in which she had a starring role.

During Welch’s first visit to Lakeside, she wrote two songs for, and appeared in, the film “Christmas at Maxwell’s,” which was shot at the Maxwell's Hospitality House in 2004.

While some seating is provided in Bettinger Park, guests are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets. In the case of inclement weather, this event will be moved to Hoover Auditorium.
