 Wednesday, June 30, 2021
10:30am-12:00pm
Orchestra Hall

Artists capture our hearts and minds through the songs, performances, and recordings. But, how do those favorite arrangements and memorable performance get created and come together? Explore the power of music and interpretation as they develop the unique sounds that richly enhance the styles of our favorite performers and their songs. From Sinatra to Streisand, Michael Shirtz shares the "behind-the-scenes" look at various musical directors and arrangers such as Quincy Jones, Nelson Riddle, and others who have shaped the sound of our beloved artists.

Join Michael Shirtz in a presentation on how musical arrangements are created between artists and their musical directors/arrangers to create a memorable music moment for audiences. This conversation includes listening examples, song-artist comparisons, and a demonstration of developing a song arrangement with those in attendance.

Michael Shirtz is a conductor, composer, and performer who has severed as a musical director and arranger for numerous artists, including Ellen Winters and currently working with actress and singer Maureen McGovern.
