Interns Join the 2010 Lakeside Leadership Academy

Posted on June 18, 2010

The Lakeside Leadership Academy (LLA) welcomes 10 new college students and graduates to the Chautauqua community. Established in 2008, the LLA internship program professionally nurtures future leaders, while strengthening Lakeside and its mission. Furthermore, the program introduces a new generation to the Chautauqua experience, allowing them to build a professional network within the community.

Throughout the winter, Lakeside traveled to various career fairs to recruit interns, the most successful being the Ohio Foundation of Independent Colleges (OFIC) CareerFest in Columbus, Ohio, which introduced six of the LLA interns to the Lakeside experience. As a result, Lakeside received more than 200 applications for the LLA program. Vice President of Programming Shirley Stary said, “The competition, especially in this year’s economy, was intense. We are blessed to have the highest caliber of college students and graduates with us this summer.”

Throughout the season, the interns will work together and attend several LLA gatherings that encourage professional growth and teamwork, including a networking forum, Rhein Center art class and field trip to the Toledo Museum of Art. The interns will host the annual LLA Closing Ceremony on Thursday, August 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Wesley Lodge. The closing ceremony is a collaborative project in which the interns showcase their summer experiences through presentations to the Lakeside community. All are invited.
