Lutheran Summer Assembly

Posted on July 07, 2011

This week is the gathering of the annual Lutheran Summer Assembly. For nearly 90 years, participants have had the opportunity to explore the meaning of faith and life at Lakeside.

Lutherans from across Ohio come together, but all are invited to attend the services and offerings. This year's overall theme is "Spiritual Journeys and the Search for Peace."

A schedule of Lutheran Summer Assembly programs and worship services may be found below, and each explores the quest for peace in a world of change, strife and difference. The age specific programs are available from 10:15 a.m.-12 p.m. Monday-Friday.

They will explore and encourage spiritual journeys of peace, including the search for understanding between people of different beliefs. Children and adult programs are held at the Lakeside United Methodist Church. The youth program is held in the Lower Pavilion Room, across from DockSide.

Chaplain's Hour is at 9:15 a.m. in Orchestra Hall each morning; Evening Praise is at 7:15 p.m. at the Steele Memorial Bandstand. Each worship experience lifts hearts to the God of peace, with a mix of contemporary and traditional music, scripture, prayers, storytelling or multi-media preaching.

The chaplain for this week is the Rev. Eric Shafer. A variety of other participants from the community provide worship leadership during the week.  All are welcome.

The Lutheran Summer Assembly is affiliated with three Ohio jurisdictions, synods, of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

A volunteer planning team develops the yearly program, provides for fundraising, publicity and facility arrangements. For more information visit or call (630) 220-7438.
