Orchestra Hall, a Family Tradition for more than 90 Years

Posted on February 25, 2011

Orchestra Hall has been a gathering place in Lakeside for many families. It is hard to believe that films are shown in Orchestra Hall using a projector built in 1944. Over the years, the screen has yellowed and sagged with age, and the sound system continues to deteriorate.

We want to make certain that this historic building and its equipment continue to offer family entertainment for another 90 years. The Orchestra Hall enhancement project will include a complete rebuild of the movie projector. A new, stark white screen will be built on casters to roll downstage closer to the audience. In addition, Dolby Stereo Sound will also be integrated in the theater. These enhancements will improve the overall movie theater experience for moviegoers.

Lakeside's ability to enhance Orchestra Hall for families is made possible by your generous contributions to the Lakeside Fund. Paving the way in making this project a reality are two special gifts received from Salam Chaudhary and Meredith Meyer, and Tom and Debbie Jones. These couples have doubled their financial contribution to the Lakeside Fund totaling $15,000 to ensure family entertainment. We thank them kindly for their generosity. We still have a long way to go in order to change the movie-going experience for you and families visiting Lakeside.

“Our young children love to check out the posters in front of Orchestra Hall, to see what movie will be featured next,” says Meredith. “Orchestra Hall plays an important part in delivering entertainment, educational and religious programming to the Lakeside audience.”

Her husband Salam adds, “Orchestra Hall is one of the few independent movie houses around. We hope that other families will be inspired to offer their support.”

“The Lakeside Fund deserves our support at all levels. I can tell you as a Lakeside Association Board member that we monitor the finances closely. We need help from Lakesiders like you,” says Tom, who along with wife Debbie are supporting the project.

We invite you to consider your first gift to the Lakeside Fund or give a second gift to support the Orchestra Hall enhancement project before March 31. With your gift of $250 or more, you can honor a special loved one at the featured movie presentation on Sunday, June 19, 2011. If you wish to participate, please download the Orchestra Hall Enhancement Form or give online.
