The Lakeside Chautauqua Education Department has prepared an intellectual and stimulating seminar series for this upcoming season. Popular theme weeks will return, while new topics will be introduced to engage all ages.

Week 1 seminars (June 25-29) will kick off with the 2012 Elections, including an in-depth focus on the nomination process, presidential election and campaign finances. Presentations will also be given on the War of 1812, in recognition of the 200th anniversary of the beginning of the war, with an emphasis on the causes, major campaigns and outcomes of the war, specifically in Ohio.

Sponsored by Wesleyan Senior Living, Week 3 seminars (July 9-13) will discuss The Printed Word and The Sounds of Music. Experts will discuss the future of newspapers and libraries. There will also be music-related seminars presented by Hoover evening performers with traditional, jazz and big band components.

In conjunction with the Chautauqua Network Annual Meeting, Week 5 seminars (July 23-27) will allow attendees to gain further insight into the history of The Chautauqua Movement and the new Chautauqua Trail. Seminars this week will also touch on The Olympic Spirit, with presentations about the history of the Olympics, current happenings in London and famous Olympians. The 9th Annual Vearl Smith Memorial Historic Preservation Workshop will conclude the week.

Individuals from multiple faiths will present interfaith dialogue, and “Peace with Justice” themes will also be discussed during the Week 7 Seeking Peace in a Multi-Faith World seminars (Aug. 6-10).

The 9th Annual Civil War Week (Aug. 20-24), sponsored by Kendal Northern Ohio, will include several  seminars about particular battles and specific topics related to the war.
