America in Bloom National Awards Competition

Posted on June 19, 2012

The Lakeside Chautauqua community has entered the nationally recognized America in Bloom (AIB) program.

The judges, Diane Clasen and Bill Hahn, will arrive on Wednesday, June 27 and depart Saturday, June 30.

While on the grounds, the judges will tour the community to critique and meet with organization leaders, residents and volunteers. The tour will highlight the unique, landscaped gardens, environmental efforts of the community and detailed tidiness of individual properties and businesses.

Please help us provide a warm Lakeside welcome to the judges as they arrive and tour Lakeside.

To ensure the judges have an unobstructed view of the beauty of individual and business properties and landscapes, please remove all yard signs, reflectors and barricades, including orange cones and sawhorse legs.

All of these efforts will showcase the pride and community spirit we share at Lakeside.

AIB is a non-profit organization that provides a framework for continuous improvements in communities. Its mission is to promote nationwide beautification through education and community involvement by encouraging the use of flowers, plants, trees and other environmental and lifestyle enhancements.

The AIB program is a national competition among communities across America, judged by a group of experts in the following six categories: Flower Displays, Landscaping Areas, Urban Forestry, Environmental Efforts, Heritage Preservation and Overall Impression.

The judges will review the distribution, variety and suitability of trees, as well as sustainable practices such as recycling and waste reduction.

They will also examine events promoting environmental efforts of the community such as recycle days, Earth Day, tree walks and biking.

Thank you to the many organizations, residents and volunteers whose efforts continue to keep the Lakeside grounds beautiful.
