Lakeside Beautification Awards and Garden Tour on July 11

Posted on July 03, 2012

The Lakeside Beautification Awards Program honors those who have worked to promote the overall aesthetic appearance of the grounds. Guests and other residents are invited to experience these landscapes during the Garden Tour.

The Lakeside Garden Tour will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Wednesday, July 11. There is no additional fee to attend the tour.

A special gate pass to enter the grounds for the Garden Tour is available for $9.25, which includes daily auto fee,  but does not include admission to the Hoover Auditorium performance featuring Ventriloquist Andy Gross.

Tour attendees may pick up a map of the winning gardens in Lakeside to explore on their own. Maps will be available at all the gates, Fountain Inn front desk, Hotel Lakeside front desk and the Lakeside Chautauqua Office.

The Beautification Awards recognizes four award classes, including public, business, feature and residential.

The entries are judged by horticulture professionals who will complete their evaluations of each garden. The gardens will be judged on the following criteria: plant material, color texture and quality, design and construction, design and hardscape, unification and overall appearance. The award classes consist of public gardens, maintained by a group of amateur gardeners for public appreciation; business gardens, maintained on a commercial site by owner; residential gardens, professional or hobbyist; and feature gardens, an area planted and cared for by a hobbyist. The areas may include features such as formal garden bed, fountain, rock garden, water garden feature, groups of potted plants, unique vegetable gardens or beauty spots. Individual winners and all participants will receive awards and recognition at Hoover Auditorium prior to the evening performance on Wednesday, July 11.
