Children Discover Their Musical Talents in Bradley Temple Each Summer

Posted on December 03, 2013

#GivingTuesday is upon us. Already, 70 generous families have stepped forward to celebrate this national day of giving in support of the Bradley Temple Initiative.

Lakeside Chautauqua is a place where children are given opportunities to discover their gifts and talents from a very young age. Bradley Temple has been a gathering place for children’s activities, including Ring & Sing and Fun with Music, where children learn about music, play instruments, sing songs and make new friends.

These amazing programs were established by Connie Dieterich, a music educator from Cleveland, Ohio, and have become an annual tradition for many Lakeside families.

Emily Donathan, a lifelong Lakesider, joined the Lakeside Chautauqua seasonal staff as the Youth Music & Education Intern for the past three summers. Through this opportunity, she has helped nurture Lakeside Chautauqua's youngest generation.

“I was always amazed at how much the kids learned in just three days of class,” Donathan shared. “They sang songs from memory, played instruments, and made new friends and memories with the other kids in the class.”

She added, “I have watched children discover talents that they did not know they had, and I loved when they would come back the following summer and tell me about the instruments they had picked up over the past year.”

Loving educators and community members make these programs at Bradley Temple possible each summer.

"Ring & Sing and Fun with Music are both led by one of the most outstanding music educators I have ever met, Connie Dieterich," explained Donathan. "It was my absolute honor to work side by side with Connie the past three years as she helped me develop into an educator."

Donathan said, “I am certain that these children will look back on their time in Bradley Temple when they are grown and remember all of the wonderful summer moments they had in that classroom.”

For 126 years, Bradley Temple has been a gathering place for children's programming. The community support today and during the giving season, will continue to teach children to sing and learn about music.
