Lakeside Chautauqua Celebrates Fourth of July

Posted on June 27, 2013

Lakeside Chautauqua's Fourth of July celebration begins at 10 a.m. with the Children's Bike Parade in Perry Park. Participants of all ages should arrive early with an already-decorated bike. Due to a world-wide helium shortage, balloons will not be distributed for decorating bikes this year.

Following the bike parade will be the Fourth of July Float Parade at 10:15 a.m. Both parades will travel east to west on Second Street.

The Grand Marshal for the float parade will be Chip Richter, who, along with his family, has coordinated God Squad for the past 18 years.

Spectators are invited to dress patriotically, as part of this Lakeside Chautauqua tradition.

Join fellow Lakesiders on the lawn of Hotel Lakeside to enjoy a Fourth of July cookout from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The cookout will be catered by Jason Platfoot of the Hotel Lakeside Cafe. Meals will include a hamburger, BBQ pork or brat, potato salad, chips and a cookie for $7. Water and pop will be sold for $1 each.

Central Ohio Brass Band (COBB) will perform from 6-8 p.m. at the Steele Memorial Bandstand, offering a selection of familiar patriotic tunes.

At 9:45 p.m., or dusk, fireworks off the Lakeside Dock will offer a spectacular finale to the day.

Due to preparations for fireworks, the dock will close for the day as early as 2 p.m. Please watch for signs at the Pavilion.
