Please help Lakeside Chautauqua welcome two new employees to its year-round staff.

Meredith_Storey.jpgMeredith Storey joined the Lakeside staff in August as the Programming Administrative Assistant. She is from Olmsted Falls, Ohio, and is a 2012 graduate of Marietta College. At Marietta, she double majored in business management and marketing and received a minor in human resources management.

Storey started coming to Lakeside with her family as a child and was happy to be back this past summer as the Lakeside Leadership Academy’s Operations intern.

“Some of my earliest memories are attending the ‘Punch & Judy’ puppet show, playing in Central Park and being on the front page of the Lakesider with Santa for Christmas in July,” she said.

As the Programing Administrative Assistant, she works closely with Shirley Stary, vice president of Programming. Her responsibilities include coordinating annual events like the Katharine C. Crampton Memorial Art Show and Plein Air Art Festival; processing contracts for entertainers, educational speakers and chaplains; attending arts conferences in the off-season; and supporting all areas of programming within the four pillars of Chautauqua.

“I’m thrilled to have worked on the booking and organizing of the 2013 programming events,” Storey said. “I’ve worked very hard with Shirley to plan the Hoover entertainment schedule and programs like the Crampton Memorial Art Show, Plein Air Art Festival, Triathlons, Raccoon Run, Kelleys Island Swim – the list goes on and on. The months of off-season planning will all be worth it when the events come to life this summer.”

Story also spent the off-season months coaching 8th grade volleyball at Danbury High School. “I’ve met a lot of people from the area through this experience, and I loved my team.”

Bethany_McFarland.jpgBethany McFarland joined the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation staff in October as the Advancement Manager. She grew up in Akron, Ohio, and is also a 2012 graduate of Marietta College where she earned a degree in public accounting, a minor in French and a certificate in Leadership Studies.

McFarland and Storey knew one another through their work at the college’s library and several classes together. They were excited to learn about each other’s involvement in the Lakeside Leadership Academy this past summer.

McFarland first came to Lakeside to visit family friends who own a cottage and to attend their daughter’s wedding on the grounds. She was excited to return to this past summer to work as the Group Sales/Events intern, where she helped plan and execute many events.

“Since that very first visit all those years ago, it was evident to me that Lakeside was truly a unique and special place,” McFarland explained. “It was a blessing to be a part of such a warm and supportive community this summer and an even greater joy to return full-time. I made personal connections with many Lakesiders, and I’m looking forward to continuing those relationships.”

As the Advancement Manager, she will assist Gretchen Colon, vice president of Advancement & Communications, in the fundraising efforts. Her responsibilities include gift processing, engaging and assisting donors, organizing recognition events and assisting with the overall development strategies.

“Not only am I pursuing my passion with my work, but I am in one of the greatest places on Earth. I couldn’t be more excited for my second season here at Lakeside, and I’m eager to meet more wonderful Lakesiders.”
