Lakeside Chautauqua’s First #GivingTuesday was a ‘One of a Kind’ Day

Posted on December 05, 2013

The outpouring of community support was overwhelming for Lakeside Chautauqua’s first #GivingTuesday event, raising nearly $105,000. On December 3, the Lakeside community came together and gave back in a meaningful way, making #GivingTuesday 2013 a truly ‘one of a kind’ day.

In November, Lakeside Chautauqua introduced stakeholders to #GivingTuesday, a national day of giving encouraging individuals and families to celebrate generosity in their communities and inspiring donors to give back in unique ways.

All the way from Ireland and across 14 U.S. states and 60 Ohio cities, a total of 148 gifts were received in support of Lakeside Chautauqua’s mission. Together, we raised $80,000 towards the restoration of Bradley Temple and children’s programing improvements, with two families each stepping forward with $25,000 gifts.

Additionally, gifts totaling $25,000 were received in support of the Lakeside Chautauqua Endowment, Lakeside Symphony Orchestra, recreational programming and facilities, religious life programming, youth group housing and Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile beautification project.  Gifts were also made in honor and memory of loved ones.

Joining the #GivingTuesday movement, more than 16 families and individuals gave back to Lakeside Chautauqua for the very first time. #GivingTuesday also marked 25 years of consecutive giving for four special Lakeside families and 29 consecutive years for two more.

Because of your generosity, we have raised more than $500,000 to date for the Lakeside Fund. While we still must raise additional funds, we are well on our way to achieving a record annual fund goal of $700,000 in 2013.

The Lakeside Fund annual giving campaign bridges the gap between earned income and the actual cost of producing our signature Chautauqua program, maintaining our beautiful grounds and preserving our historic structures.

Regardless of size, each gift given on #GivingTuesday helps to transform lives by providing opportunities for renewal and growth, nurturing mind, body and spirit. Collectively, these gifts enrich the Lakeside Chautauqua experience for all. We are most grateful for the generosity of the Lakeside Chautauqua community as we celebrate the significant success of #GivingTuesday 2013.

Even though #GivingTuesday has passed, it is not too late to participate in the spirit of giving this holiday season with a gift by the end of the calendar year. However, all 2013 Lakeside Fund gifts must be received by March 31, 2014, our fiscal year-end.

Please consider giving a gift online or send a check, made payable to the ‘Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation,’ to: Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation, 236 Walnut Ave., Lakeside, OH 43440. Thank you for your continued support.

Yours in the Spirit of Chautauqua,

Kevin Sibbring
