Lakeside Federation of Women’s Clubs

Posted on July 03, 2013

The Lakeside Federation of Women’s Clubs will hold their 119th annual convention at Lakeside on Wednesday, July 10.

The Federation is comprised of multiple women’s clubs from northwestern Ohio.

Groups of women from this area have been meeting annually to hear speakers of interest, as well as to exchange information since 1894.

President Joyce Keaton of the Attica Literary Club has chosen "Friends and Memories" as the 2013 convention theme.

Since this will be the last convention for this organization, Lakeside Federation of Women convention attendees can look forward to being with friends and sharing many fond memories.

The meeting for this year’s event will begin at 9 a.m. at Green Gables, the historic home of the Lakeside Women’s Club, located at 161 Walnut Ave.

The morning program will feature Raeline Hlaverty of Jeromesville, Ohio. She will portray Fanny Crosby, the well-known Christian hymn writer.

A luncheon will be served at 12 p.m. to convention attendees at the Lakeside United Methodist Church, located at 450 Central Ave.

The afternoon speaker will be Raelene Phillips of Fostoria, Ohio. She is commonly referred to as the Pineapple Lady.

Phillips is the author of eight books, all describing a simpler time when extending hospitality was a way of life.

Attendees will leave this afternoon program with an understanding of how and why the pineapple became a symbol of hospitality.

Women’s clubs in this area who are participating in this year’s annual convention include the Port Clinton Eighty-Eight Circle, Port Clinton Literary and Social Club, Lakeside Noonday Club, Lakeside Study Club and Lakeside – The Literature Club, as well as the Lakeside Women’s Club.

The Lakeside Federation of Women’s Clubs Convention is open to any interested women.
