McGinty Siblings Each Chose Lakeside for Their Life-Changing Moments

Posted on October 15, 2013

Inspired by years of memories and family tradition, the McGinty siblings each chose Lakeside Chautauqua as the backdrop for their special life-changing moments.

In August 2012, Ryan McGinty proposed to his girlfriend, Rachel, at the gazebo in Central Park. Less than one year after his Lakeside engagement and just 34 days following his wedding, Ryan’s sister, Shannon, married her husband, Chip Boster, in June 2013 on the front lawn of the Hotel Lakeside.

For the McGinty family, the Lakeside tradition began many years ago. Growing up in the foster system, Ryan and Shannon’s grandmother, Mary McCullick, was introduced to Lakeside by her latest foster family who owned a cottage on the grounds.

Mary absolutely fell in love with Lakeside and later shared the experience with her family.

Shannon expressed how important Lakeside has since become for them. She said, “For us, it’s the fact that we have many, many years of memories at Lakeside. My grandparents and father have all passed, so it’s a symbolic place for us of memories and fun. Lakeside allows us to reconnect to more positive times in life and provides time for centering on family.”

A Lakeside Chautauqua wedding was an obvious choice for Shannon and her husband, Chip. They explained, “We imagined a day that was really symbolic of what it means to be in connection and to create a family. What better place to do that than a place centered on Christ and on that type of connection?”

The couple also chose their date in memory of Shannon’s deceased father. She said, “My parents’ wedding anniversary was June 29, and we wanted to honor my dad by choosing it as our own wedding date.”

As Shannon and Chip made plans for their special day from their home in Maryland, they relied on the support of Lakeside Chautauqua’s Conference & Event Planning Staff to help make their wedding dreams come true.

Shannon shared, “Amber Scherling in Event Planning was phenomenal. She is a brilliant girl, and she made the day so easy. She made sure everything was taken care of and helped us think through things we never even thought of. We were so impressed.”

On the day of the wedding, the ladies got ready together at the Hotel Lakeside, while the men prepared at Idlewyld Bed & Breakfast. It was also the same day as the Amy Grant concert in Hoover Auditorium. By chance, Shannon and her bridesmaids got to meet Amy while taking pictures before the ceremony.

Shannon described her encounter with Amy saying, “She was completely gracious and encouraging. I think I wasn’t as nervous walking down the aisle because I was so excited to tell Chip about meeting her.”

The skies cleared just in time for the Bosters’ outdoor ceremony on the Hotel Lakeside front lawn. From there, they proceeded to a beautiful outdoor reception in the Hotel Lakeside Café courtyard.

The bride and groom said their Lakeside Chautauqua wedding “was the perfect setting for our special day. Not only was it meaningful, but it was quaint and intimate and so pretty with the Chinese lanterns and twinkle lighting. It was everything we ever wanted.”

Many of the wedding guests were first-time visitors to Lakeside. “The guests loved it.” the couple said. “They loved the vintage feel, the friendliness of Lakesiders, the gorgeous lakefront. Several people even said they wanted to live here. I think many of them will be back.”

Shannon and Chip also look forward to returning to Lakeside next summer for some relaxation and fun in celebration of their first wedding anniversary.
