Support Perry Park through the Lakeside Fund

Posted on July 17, 2013

Perry Park Playground has been an important gathering place for families and children each summer.

Two years ago, Nancy and Ronald Long gave a donation to help restore the playground and convert the sandy surface to mulch.

In 2011, Nancy said, “The playground needed to be renovated due to the wear and tear of weather and hard use.”

During hard rainstorms the sand would wash out toward the lake.

After the mulch was placed, a sandbox was installed for children to continue digging and building sand castles in Perry Park. Families were thankful for these much needed changes back in 2011.

Today , various events and activities take place in Perry Park, including

Wednesday Family Picnics, weddings, family reunions and tennis matches, among other events.

The Wednesday Night Family Picnic has grown to become one of Lakeside Chautauqua’s most popular summer traditions.

The picnic has seen as many as 530 people attend on a single night. The food is picnic fare, but the real draw of this event is the relaxing and tranquil setting combined with the spirit of community and fellowship.

Throughout the Wednesday Family Picnics, children are seen playing on the playground, participating in the games and enjoying family time.

Unfortunately, the Perry Park Playground equipment is dated and needs to be replaced with a more functional structure.

Therefore, the playground will be part of a new initiative to claim and promote Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile.

This multi-phase project will take place with strong support for the 2013 Lakeside Fund.

As part of the phases, a new playground will be installed for the children to play while parents can enjoy the beautiful view of Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile. The space will welcome multi-generational families as children set out to interact together in this popular location.

In addition to the Perry Park Playground, intimate conversation terraces will be placed along the lakefront, as well as beautiful gardens, to ensure that Lakeside Chautauqua claims Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile.

This designation will strengthen Lakeside Chautauqua’s reputation of being one of the most beautiful communities in America, both naturally and spiritually.

There is an opportunity to assist with these much needed improvements. With a gift, large or small, Lakesiders can change the experience of the Perry Park Playground for next Chautauqua season.

All are invited to give a financial gift to support the playground and the Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile Initiative.

Either give a generous gift online at or make checks payable to Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation, 236 Walnut Avenue, Lakeside, Ohio 43440.
